Laser cut brake protection plates

While changing the wheel bearings and seals on the front axle, I noticed the factory dust shields on the front brakes were completely rusted away. The one on the right side was so bad there were multiple chunks missing out of it and the left side was still intact, though barely holding on by a thread.

I took a picture of the left side dust shield and reverse engineered the part in FreeCAD.

I then took the DXF file I made and asked one of my clients if I could cut these parts out of 3mm galvanized steel after a routine maintenance. As after every maintenance some test pieces need to be cut anyway, they kindly obliged.

The result is a heavy duty protection plate over double the original thickness. As a bonus, it’s galvanized for rust protection.
